Crossroads 2003

Most of the work usually mirrors some aspect of my life at the time and reflects where I am emotionally, physically, spiritually and politically.

The past twelve months have involved major shifts in the evaporation of expectations and these have circled the nucleus of most people’s lives, a home base. Three houses were sold and included amongst them was the one my father built 52 years ago. Two other homes were also sold and these represented different phases of my adult life.

My current exhibition is less political than some of my former shows and became the most revealing personally. It represents separation, displacement, closure and new directions. The final picture Open House extends the notion of vulnerability in the face of an unknown future, but a breath of freedom extends from the miniature house held by the figure.

`My work deals with implied associations that exist between objects. The images are recognisable, yet I am not speaking of a particular time and place.

By removing elements from their normal context and placing them into a new picture plane they become imbued with a different history.

I am curious about people. Particularly the difference between their private personality revealed in a home environment and the more guarded public face presented to outsiders.'
